painting 50 (railroad tracks on Broadsway and Arbutus in Kits)

painting 49 (figure)

painting 48 (still life of compression)

painting 47 (still life in Portland)

This is a still life of a skull, leaves, and a plastic bag.  I really wanted to do more outdoor painting, but it was way too rainy and cold in Portland.  So my friend and I decided to paint a still life instead. We worked on this for about 9 hours total.  I actually had a lot of fun painting this.  It gave me a chance to take my time and not be rushed by the weather and lighting conditions.  I need to do more still lifes.  It helped me to focus on the subtleties and tonal changes of the values.  I'll definitely bring what I learned to the outdoors!

painting 46 (Domino's Pizza in Portland)

This was the first painting of the year.  I visited my friend Nathan in Portland this January.  I wanted to paint this Domino's pizza in my last visit in the summer but we didn't have enough time because we painted in so many other locations.  This place caught my eye mainly because I found the solar panels to be interesting.  Only in Portland you would see solar panels on a popular pizza chain restaurant.  It was really cold when we were painting. We held heat warmers in our pockets and wore tons of layers, but it was still uncomfortable! This is my training for colder climates. Plus I'll appreciate the warmer days.  I must stay disciplined if I ever want to paint snow!
