painting09: backyard

This is my backyard in Bernal Heights. Painting in the afternoon is challenging.  The light is constantly moving.  I let loose with this painting.  I made thicker brush strokes and used a palette knife.  I also just bought a plastic spackle tool to help with straight edges.

Painting 08: Fisherman's Wharf 02

Painting07: Fisherman's Wharf (Monterey)

Painting06: Carmel

Painting05: Point Lobos State Park

Here is a painting at Point Lobos State Park.  It was a beautiful place to paint.  Sooo many options.  Though once again, I was chasing the light.

Painting 04: Asilomar State Beach

Getting back to oil painting.  I love how oil paint feels.  It's been so long since I felt like an artist. I'm an artist! Yay!  I got to paint with a bunch of awesome plein air artists at Asilomar Beach.  Super fun to paint with people who have a similar passion.

Painting 03: Bernal Hill

Another day up in my neighborhood.  No distractions, just painting with water color and gouache.

Painting 02: Bernal Heights Produce

I was sitting across the street at Martha & Coffee drinking chai.  I thought I would paint this cool looking grocery store, Bernal Heights Produce that is currently not open.  I started painting around 3:00pm so the light changed dramatically while I was painting.  I was chasing the light, which resulted to several attempts of shadow changes.  Must note: DO NOT CHASE THE LIGHT!

Painting 01 Bernal Hill

One Painting at a time...

I'm finally getting back to my roots.  For quite a while now, I've put my focus in the digital world of matte painting and 3d environments.  Don't get me wrong, it is gratifying to see your work on the screen, but something has been missing.  For so long I've haven't aloud myself to paint traditionally.  I've been so used to Control Z.  I've been so worried to make a "shitty" painting that I don't make any.  I've allowed my fear of making art to take over for too long. I've reached my breaking point.  I came to the realization that I will not be able to make an awesome painting without making a whole lot of shitty paintings. So here I go...no control z...just mineral spirits!
